Resin Bond / Resin Bound Cleaning Overview

Although Resin Bound and Resin Bond driveways, seem like a good option and are visually stunning they do need a lot more maintenance than your standard brick pavers or natural stone. Resin Bond or bound driveways need to have a routine cleaning and maintance regiment that is soft and low pressure, so it will not damage the surface. Keeping weeds, moss and algae off the surface is really important to maintain the life of the driveway as algae, moss and weeds can eat the resin, causing patches in the driveway that cannot be invisibly mended. in short moss and weeds are very very very bad for resin drives.

When cleaning We recommend low pressure fan tip or flat surface cleaner cleaning along with a soft wash to remove the dirt, discolouration and any moss that may have built up in the surface and and once complete we recommend using a good quality biocide, such as Algo Clear on the driveway to continue to kill any organism that will try and live in the gaps of the driveway.

Demystifying Low Maintenance: Unveiling the Realitie

It’s essential to recognize that low maintenance doesn’t translate to maintenance-free. However, the good news is that maintaining a resin-bound surface is a straightforward process, yielding a longer lifespan for your investment. here is our comprehensive guide, tailored to help you customers effectively care for and extend the life of their resin bound / bond surfaces.

Navigating the Proper Usage of Resin Bound Surfaces

To maximize the longevity of your resin bound surfaces, it’s crucial to understand their intended purpose. While they are designed to accommodate normal pedestrian and vehicular traffic, they aren’t engineered to withstand abnormal loads or unconventional usage. Ensure your investment’s protection by preemptively guarding against undue damage. Remember, heavy goods vehicles should be refrained from parking or consistently traversing these surfaces unless such usage was factored into the initial construction planning.

Ensuring the Health of Your Resin Bound Driveway

Your resin bound driveway can seamlessly accommodate the routine parking of cars and other typical uses. However, it’s essential to be cautious and avoid certain actions that could compromise its integrity. Here are some insights to ensure your investment remains unscathed:

  1. Skips: Prevent direct placement of heavy skips with sharp edges onto your driveway. Opt for load-bearing planks or consider alternative skip placement to mitigate risks.
  2. Sharp Points: Safeguard your surface against the pressure exerted by sharp objects, such as motorcycle stands.
  3. Dragging: Never drag weighty objects across your resin bound driveway to avert unnecessary strain.
  4. Spillage Vigilance: Guard against solvent spillages, as they could soften and potentially damage the resin binder.
  5. Chemical Resistance Evolution: While your resin bound surface gains full chemical resistance over time, exercise extra care during the initial seven days post-installation.

Preserve the Flawlessness: Banishing Tire Marks

Bid farewell to unsightly tire marks that might mar your driveway’s aesthetics. A simple adjustment in behavior can make all the difference. Avoid turning your vehicle’s steering wheel while stationary on the surface. This simple practice can effectively prevent tire marks, which are the result of heat and friction.

Embark on Regular Cleaning Rituals with resin bond / bound driveways

The key to maintaining your resin bound surface’s allure lies in consistent cleaning practices. Employ a stiff broom to regularly sweep away debris, leaves, and potential moss growth. Eliminate foreign objects, stubborn stains, and potential damage-causing elements.

We are masters Jet Washing and recomend Periodic Cleaning for resin driveways.
Elevate your maintenance routine by introducing periodic jet washing / soft washing sessions.

Jet Washing Unveiled: A Step-by-Step Guide
Experience the power of efficient jet washing with these straightforward steps:

  1. Optimal Nozzle Selection: Enhance precision by selecting a flat nozzle, if available, for even spraying.
  2. Pressure Check: Utilize a jet wash or pressure washer with a pressure level of up to 150bar. Excessive pressure can potentially harm your surface.
  3. Temperature Balance: Strike the perfect balance with cool, yet not overly cold, water to prevent resin damage.
  4. Spraying Distance: Maintain a minimum distance of 20cm between the nozzle and the surface. This precaution prevents potential damage from high-pressure jet washing conducted too closely.
  5. Sweeping Motion: Employ a gentle back-and-forth sweeping motion while spraying.
  6. Post-Broom Cleanup: As a finishing touch, perform jet washing after sweeping to eliminate any residual debris that the broom may have missed.

Tackling Gum, Moss, and Algae: The Ultimate Cleaning Arsenal
Unwanted elements like chewing gum, moss, and algae can pose challenges, but we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to effectively address them:

  1. Chewing Gum Woes: Dealing with stubborn chewing gum is a breeze with freezing spray. For the toughest cases, employ a wall scraper after applying the freezing spray. However, avoid aggressive digging that could compromise the surface’s integrity.
  2. Moss and Algae Strategy: Eradicate and prevent moss and algae with specialized killers like “algoclear pro.” Follow manufacturer instructions for optimal results. For deeply ingrained algae, a strong bleach solution can rejuvenate the surface’s color. Always adhere to guidelines and environmental considerations, rinsing thoroughly after application.

A Greener Approach: Resisting Weeds (but prevention is way better than the cure)

While resin bound surfaces inherently deter weed growth, occasional hand removal or targeted herbicides might be necessary. Don’t worry; the process is straightforward:

  1. Weed Extraction: Despite its resistance, a resin bound surface might occasionally face windblown weed seeds. For small quantities, manual removal is effective. Ensure complete root extraction to prevent regrowth.
  2. Stubborn Weeds: Deep-rooted weeds may necessitate herbicides. Selective application of domestic weed killers can resolve localized infestations without harming the surface.

Guard Against Stains: Keep Debris at Bay
Avert staining issues resulting from leaf debris, twigs, and seeds. Regular cleaning remains your best defense against potential discoloration.

Combatting Oil Spills in resin bond: Swift Action, Impeccable Results

Oil and grease may leave unsightly marks, but swift action can prevent lasting damage. Exercise caution to prevent spills, and clean them immediately using a mixture of warm water and mild household detergent. Allow the mixture to penetrate for 10 minutes before jet washing for optimal results.

Embracing Perfection: Tackling Mineral Stains
The presence of natural iron pyrites can lead to staining, but an effective solution lies in oxalic acid. Apply the specialist solution to eliminate stains, promptly rinsing with cold water afterward.

Winter Wisdom: Snow Removal without Aggravation
Winter’s challenges extend to all surfaces, but your resin bound driveway boasts advantages. Clearing snow is a breeze due to the smooth, flat surface. Use a standard snow shovel to eliminate snow without disturbing the aggregates, a common issue in loose gravel driveways. Caution is advised with metal shovels to prevent surface damage.

Conquering Frost and Ice: A Salty Solution
When frost and ice strike, salt comes to the rescue. Apply it to eliminate icy hazards, but ensure thorough post-use rinsing to prevent salt residue.
